About the Locomotive Driver Assistant Role

As a Casual Locomotive Driver Assistant, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of rail services. You'll work closely with Train Crew, Operational Staff, Maintenance, and Terminal teams, as well as Network Control.

Initial Training Program
  • You'll receive paid classroom & practical training (38 hours per week).
  • Assist in various rail operational tasks, gaining hands-on experience in a supportive environment.
Requirements for Success
  • Able to pass a CAT 1 Rail Medical and fitness assessment.
  • Current full Class C or higher Driver's Licence (no restrictions).
  • Valid National Police Clearance with no court outcomes.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills to complete written assessments.
