Workplace Health and Safety Advisor

The Australian Industry Trade College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Workplace Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our People team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our staff, students, and visitors.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to provide advice and support on all aspects of workplace health and safety. This includes developing and implementing policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and providing training and guidance to staff.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of federal and state legislation related to health and safety, as well as experience in developing and maintaining a Work Health Safety Management System (WHSMS). They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement WHS policies and procedures to meet legislative requirements and organisational needs
- Conduct regular site inspections, complete risk assessments, and identify control measures
- Provide training and guidance to staff on WHS procedures and protocols
- Monitor WHS performance and implement the audit schedule
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the WHSMS
- Review and report on major incidents as required under the WHSMS
- Collaborate with staff to align WHS activities across all schools
- Act as Rehabilitation and Return to Work Advisor, liaising with Workers' Compensation Insurance and medical professionals

Essential Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in WHS or minimum Cert IV in Work Health Safety
- Rehabilitation and Return to Work Advisor qualification and experience
- Minimum 4 years health, safety, and environment experience in Australia
- Effective communicator at all levels across diverse groups of people
- Collaborative, active listener with the ability to add value and work effectively within teams
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Senior First Aid and Mental Health First Aid certificates
- Experience working with schools, work experience programs, and school-based traineeships and apprenticeships
