Job Description

The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Lawyer to join its Legal Office. The successful applicant will work closely with the Director of Legal and Integrity to provide timely and comprehensive legal advice on complex matters related to workplace relations, strategic management, and litigation support.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of labour law, employment legislation, and court procedures. They will possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include providing high-level legal advice to the Executive Management of the Courts, managing complaints against Registrars and staff, and delivering expert advice on policies and protocols.

The role requires a strong analytical mind, ability to critically evaluate large volumes of information, and exercise sound judgment in decision-making. A broad understanding of federal civil jurisdictions and relevant legislation is essential.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in law and admission as a practitioner of the High Court and/or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia are required;
  • At least 3 years of experience as a legal practitioner or in-house counsel, legal officer, or equivalent position within either the private or public sector;
  • Experience in labour law and dealing in workplace relations is highly desirable;
