SUMMARY

The Shipper is responsible for verifying, inspecting, and maintaining records of incoming and outgoing shipments. This role includes performing inspections of products, ensuring packing lists, Bills of Lading (BOL), and computer-generated shipping documents are accurate, utilizing various freight shipping platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Receiving Responsibilities:

  1. Verifying, inspecting, and counting received items
  2. Unloading, sorting, and storing items in designated locations
  3. Processing receiving and return transactions through computer systems
  4. Tagging and labeling items according to established procedures
  5. Maintaining a clear dock area and unloading zone for incoming materials
  6. Executing housekeeping tasks, including mopping, sweeping, and trash disposal
  7. Breaking down cardboard for recycling
  8. Following both written and verbal instructions to perform tasks accurately
  9. Working safely and keeping the work area, tools, and equipment organized
  10. Performing additional shop duties as required
  11. Operating pallet jacks and hand trucks to move shipments

Shipping Responsibilities:

  1. Constructing wooden crates for shipping equipment securely
  2. Packaging equipment in standard boxes or affixed to pallets
  3. Determining optimal methods for supporting and shipping products
  4. Managing the shipping of finished goods and materials
  5. Examining outgoing products to ensure compliance with packing list specifications
  6. Training on oxygen cleaning protocols for equipment
  7. Verifying packing lists to confirm all items are correct and in good condition
  8. Maintaining an inventory of shipping materials and supplies
  9. Utilizing computerized management systems for shipping
  10. Handling Bills of Lading (BOL) paperwork
  11. Coordinating dedicated loads with shipping companies
  12. Operating sit-down propane forklifts for shipping and receiving tasks
  13. Loading and unloading crates and materials from trailers
  14. Understanding shipping terms such as prepaid, third-party, and collect
  15. Labeling packed cartons with shipping information

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A High School Diploma, GED, or technical school; at least two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to:

  1. Safely utilize power tools and hand tools
  2. Read a tape measure accurately
  3. Operate a forklift (certification required)
  4. Count accurately for inventory management
  5. Follow directions and work independently
