Overview:
The 24/7 OEMS is a leading organization dedicated to enhancing healthcare access in Canada, particularly through the integration of Physician Assistants (PAs) in emergency settings. We are collaborating with Island Health to effectively recruit and incorporate PAs into the Emergency Department.

Location:
The Saanich Peninsula Hospital (SPH) is conveniently located a short drive from a major urban center. The emergency department is currently operating with limited hours, with plans to expand to full 24/7 service in the near future. The facility is equipped with essential diagnostic tools including CT, x-ray, and ultrasound, along with laboratory services available for most hours.

Position Summary:
The Physician Assistant will perform clinical responsibilities under the supervision of a designated Physician Supervisor, ensuring compliance with the standards set by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC). The PA will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

Work Schedule:

  • 5 days per week
  • 37.5 hours total
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, and potential night rotations in the future

Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation for this role is competitive and based on experience, with an annual range outlined for PAs. Additional benefits include:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver patient care in accordance with CPSBC regulations under the guidance of an Emergency Department Physician.
  • Engage effectively with patients and their families, ensuring a compassionate and culturally sensitive approach.
  • Collaborate with a diverse healthcare team, participating in necessary reporting as mandated by CPSBC and Island Health.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in an emergency department setting.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant in accordance with CPSBC requirements.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in English and possess legal eligibility to work in British Columbia.
Mandatory Certifications:
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Experience with FAST Point of Care Ultrasound

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated physical capability to fulfill job responsibilities, including potential evening and overnight shifts.
