Seeking an experienced and skilled Chef to join our award-winning team at a Japanese restaurant in Brisbane. The successful candidate will have a strong passion for Japanese cuisine and be able to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in daily food preparation and carry out duties as directed by the Executive Chef.
- Prepare appropriate food quantities for daily service.
- Support production across all kitchen sections, including teppanyaki and sushi counter.
- Ensure high standards of food safety and consistent food quality.
- Follow recipes and instructions to maintain consistency and efficiency.
- Stay up-to-date with new cooking techniques, ingredients, and presentations.
- Monitor cleanliness, food wastage, and assist in cost control.
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Restaurant Manager on daily service needs and special events.
- Contribute to menu development and creation of unique, inspiring dishes.
Requirements:
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (mandatory).
- Minimum 2 years of proven experience in a similar role within a Japanese or fine dining kitchen.
- Experience in sushi, sashimi, and Japanese culinary techniques is essential.
- Ability to lead a section of the kitchen independently.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Professional presentation and high standards of hygiene.
- Flexibility to work across day and night shifts, including weekends.
