Conservation Role

This is an ongoing, full-time position as part of a team contributing to the preservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage in NSW.

As a supervisor, you will work closely with field officers and other staff to coordinate, supervise and implement conservation programs for the Blue Mountains region.

The team primarily focuses on environmental conservation through fuel reduction activities by mechanical means and prescribed fire. During periods of high bushfire activity, they may be required to participate in bushfire suppression or response functions.

Supervising and developing a team plays a critical role, as well as adapting to change, finding solutions to problems and ensuring safety always remains a priority. Heavy plant experience is advantageous.

About You

As a leader, you will have experience managing and leading dynamic teams and handling multiple projects simultaneously. Your organisational skills and adaptability will be key to your success, coupled with your communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

You will work alongside Rangers and contractors to ensure effective program delivery and priority project outcomes. A collaborative approach and motivation to achieve results will be valuable assets in this role.

Essential Requirements
  • Current Drivers/MR licence and demonstrated ability to operate 4wd vehicles and heavy plant up to 4.5 tonnes/15 tonne GVM, and capacity to obtain a First Aid Certificate.
  • Ability to carry out frontline firefighting duties and incident management roles, including capability to obtain and maintain certification as a crew leader or higher within the probationary period (up to 12 months).
  • Field Officer applicants must meet requirements for a firefighting medical, inclusive of clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The applicant must pass a task-based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.
