Horticulture and Urban Biodiversity Leader

As a Senior Horticulture and Biodiversity Coordinator, you will play a key role in managing and maintaining Glen Eira's Open Spaces. This includes parks, gardens, streetscapes, remnant vegetation, and areas of urban biodiversity.
You will implement initiatives that enhance urban biodiversity, elevate horticultural standards, and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient urban environment.
This position sits within the broader Parks leadership team and provides strategic direction, effective leadership, and expert guidance to a multi-disciplinary team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the performance and outcomes of Council's in-house Open Space, Horticulture and Biodiversity teams and contractors.
- Contributing to strategic and operational management of the Department.
- Overseeing quality assessments and auditing of open space maintenance works and projects.
- Building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Managing contracts and carrying out regular inspections on work carried out by contractors or other Council work teams.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in public open space management, technical expertise, and people leadership skills. They must be able to engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, drive positive change, and ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
Responsibilities require advanced certificate/Diploma/Degree in horticultural, turf and/or conservation land management. Additionally, demonstrated leadership qualities and experience in supervision and performance management are essential. A proven track record in the development of successful open space services is also required.
Apart from possessing excellent communication skills, you should be able to motivate and lead teams to provide exceptional customer service.
