Job Title: Assistant Manager

Job Summary:

Mercure Newcastle is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Manager to join our team. As a key member of our hotel operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the hotel's day-to-day operations, providing exceptional customer service, and leading a team of front office staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist and oversee the day-to-day operations of the front office team, working closely with housekeeping, maintenance, and food and beverage teams.
  • Supervise and monitor team members, providing guidance and support to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Take initiative to resolve guest complaints and challenges, ensuring a positive and productive experience for all guests.
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the hotel's operation in the absence of the General Manager or Front Office Manager.
  • Process and assist with check-in and check-out of guests, responding to and coordinating emergency situations.
  • Assist with the preparation and service of all-day dining orders and cafe orders, and assist in the restaurant as needed.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in the hotel industry, with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Opera.
  • Guest-obsessed focus, with the ability to navigate through change and provide quick-thinking solutions to problems.
  • Leadership qualities, with the ability to extend yourself to assisting colleagues where needed, maintaining high levels of communication with other departments.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Hold a valid Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate.
  • Ability to work across a rotating roster, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
