About the Opportunity

The School Attendance Support Program (SASP) is an innovative initiative delivered across government primary schools within the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire.

The program aims to support at-risk young people to engage in education, with the goal of improving school attendance and facilitating student, family, school, and community integration.

As a Family Engagement Specialist, you will work collaboratively with primary schools to identify and engage at-risk students with significant school attendance issues.

You will undertake thorough risk and needs assessments of children and families referred to the program and provide support to families on the holding list awaiting allocation.

The Family Engagement Specialist will also provide information to schools and families on referral pathways to other relevant services, such as The Orange Door or Family Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough risk and needs assessments of children and families referred to the program
  • Provide support to families on the holding list awaiting allocation
  • Collaborate with primary schools to identify and engage at-risk students with significant school attendance issues
  • Provide information to schools and families on referral pathways to other relevant services

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a degree qualification in social work, psychology, or a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated experience within the child, youth, and family welfare sector
  • Knowledge of child development, the barriers to school attendance, and related issues
  • An understanding of the Child Protection System, Children Youth and Families Act 2005, and Best Interests Framework
  • Strong risk assessment and risk management skills
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills
