The Role:

As a Medical Officer specialising in Drug and Alcohol services, you will play a key role in the health service delivery to people in Immigration Detention.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in relation to drug and/or alcohol use disorders
  • Prescribing medications specific to the treatment of drug and/or alcohol use disorders and providing ongoing evaluation of these patients
  • Providing immediate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in an emergency situation where necessary
  • Advising and educating nurses and allied health professionals as required
  • Referring and liaising with all parties involved in the medical management of patients with substance use disorders
  • Authorised prescriber for patients on opioid treatment program

Requirements:

- Full unconditional AHPRA Registration

- Primary care and mental health management experience at a general practitioner level

- Fellowship of the RACGP or recognition as a General Practitioner

- Experience with electronic medical records and medical practice systems is highly desirable

- Live in Australia or New Zealand and have work rights in Australia

- Evidence of training and accreditation in prescribing for the treatment of opioid dependence or willing to obtain accreditation

- Clinical experience in D&A patient management highly desirable
