FOI and NRS Compliance Officer

Halcyon Knights is in search of a skilled Information Release Officer for a contract role within a state government department. This position will primarily address Redress applications for the National Redress Scheme (NRS).

ROLE OVERVIEW

  • Manage Freedom of Information (FOI), NRS, and information release requests in compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Stay updated and apply current FOI laws, case precedents, and policies while processing requests.
  • Organize, compile, and evaluate requests to deliver precise and timely responses and recommendations, including for intricate issues, briefings, submissions, and reports.
  • Collaborate with the Manager to review and enhance Departmental FOI policies, ensuring adherence to legislative mandates, including the formulation and upkeep of policies and procedures pertinent to FOI, NRS, and information dissemination.
  • Establish and sustain relationships, systems, procedures, and controls to guarantee prompt responses to requests, offering guidance to key stakeholders, and fostering awareness of obligations and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to building networks and maintaining ongoing communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide assistance across the Customer and Information Services Directorate as necessary.
  • Implement, oversee, and assess processes by leveraging a solid understanding of operations, systems, and procedures, sharing acquired skills, knowledge, and methodologies with stakeholders.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Demonstrated capability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with personnel at all levels, external stakeholders, and clients, maintaining impartiality and confidentiality.
  • Proven track record of functioning as an effective team member and meeting stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment based on legislative and departmental guidelines and principles of natural justice.
  • Experience in providing informed advice and support on FOI legislation, NRS, and policy to leadership regarding sensitive, complex, and urgent matters.
  • Established experience in cultivating and maintaining effective networks, alliances, and operational relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders, particularly across various government entities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of the Freedom of Information Act 1991, NRS, Information Privacy Principles, government directives, court orders, and related legislation.
  • Experience in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • A valid Working with Children Check is required prior to commencement.
