Halcyon Knights is in search of a skilled Information Release Officer for a contract role within a state government department. This position is centered around managing Redress applications related to the National Redress Scheme (NRS).

ROLE OVERVIEW

  • Manage Freedom of Information (FOI), NRS, and information release requests in compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Stay updated with current FOI laws, case precedents, and departmental policies while processing requests.
  • Organize, compile, and evaluate requests to deliver precise and timely responses, including for intricate issues, briefings, submissions, and reports.
  • Collaborate with the Manager to review and enhance departmental FOI policies, ensuring adherence to legislative standards and the development of relevant procedures.
  • Establish and nurture relationships, systems, and protocols to guarantee prompt responses to requests, offering guidance to key stakeholders, and fostering awareness of obligations.
  • Engage in building networks and maintaining ongoing communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide assistance across the Customer and Information Services Directorate as necessary.
  • Implement, oversee, and assess processes by applying a solid understanding of operations and systems, sharing acquired skills and knowledge with stakeholders.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with personnel at all levels, external stakeholders, and clients, maintaining impartiality and confidentiality.
  • Proven capability to function as a productive team member and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment based on legislative and departmental guidelines and principles of natural justice.
  • Experience in providing informed advice and support on FOI legislation, NRS, and policy to leadership regarding sensitive and complex materials.
  • Established experience in cultivating and sustaining effective networks and operational relationships with internal and external clients, particularly across governmental agencies.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of the Freedom of Information Act 1991, NRS, Information Privacy Principles, government directives, court orders, and related legislation.
  • Experience in the formulation, execution, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • A valid Working with Children Check is required prior to commencement.
