The General Surgery Fellow is responsible for participating in the delivery of an effective and efficient clinical service to clients under the supervision of consultant surgeons.
About The Position- The Fellow will primarily be responsible for the daily care of acute surgical patients and the emergency operating theatre.
- The Fellow will supervise trainees and junior doctors performing ward-based or emergency department consultations.
This role requires participation in a 24-hour on-call roster as the first point of contact, supported by a rostered-on call consultant, to facilitate the transition into independent specialist practice.
About You- Excellent communication skills are required, both written and verbal, when interacting with patients, relatives, the general public, and healthcare colleagues.
- A commitment to participate in ongoing educational activities is also essential.
- Sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical behaviour are required of a medical practitioner in General Surgery.
Mandatory Requirements include being vaccinated against, and remaining vaccinated against, certain vaccine-preventable diseases as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO.01/16.
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia and holding (or being eligible for) Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or recognised equivalent as determined by RACS is mandatory.
