Transmission System Planning Manager:

A key leadership role is available in shaping the future of the electricity grid.

The Grid Transformation team seeks an experienced professional to develop strategic plans and drive change across the network.

In this pivotal position, you will lead the development of long-term system and network strategies, collaborate on industry-wide planning, and contribute to a sustainable energy landscape.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a high-performing team focused on transmission system planning.
  • Develop comprehensive medium- to long-term system and network strategies that support the transition to a cleaner energy future:
    • Ensure strategic decisions consider all relevant factors, including transmission and non-network solutions.
    • Develop and maintain accurate transmission plans and strategies aligned with regulatory requirements, asset integrity, network capacity, and reliability.
    • Conduct techno-economic modeling for future transmission projects.
    • Manage network dynamic and power quality performance.
    • Justify transmission network work proposals to meet reliability, power quality, asset integrity, and capacity objectives.
    • Develop constraint equations for efficient generator dispatch and collaborate with AEMO and Network Operations teams.
    • Work closely with Transmission Customer Connections and Distribution Grid Strategy teams to align plans with stakeholder needs.
    • Provide timely and accurate planning advice to stakeholders, including AEMO, and support network contingency planning.
    • Contribute to business planning and network operations as per the business operating model.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Proven leadership, influencing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Significant knowledge and expertise in network utility regulation and its impact on long-term system and network strategies.
  • Experience in managing and leading high-profile planning teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to consult, guide, and influence decision-makers.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and their impact on business decisions.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and experience with risk management and governance processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of techniques and systems associated with effective dynamic, transient, power quality, and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of normal planning criteria, principles, and processes, and supporting software systems used for power system simulation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis in respect to various dynamic, transient, and other performances, including harmonics.
  • Understanding of regulatory, financial, commercial, and technological drivers of electricity asset management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of network regulation and its requirements for justification and development of transmission, distribution, and volumetric projects.
