Aquaculture Production Technician Role

This is an exciting opportunity to build a rewarding career and make a tangible impact every day. As our Aquaculture Production Technician, you will be involved with all aspects of oyster hatchery production, supporting the team in undertaking a broad range of tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake all operational aspects of oyster hatchery production to a high standard, maintaining exceptional levels of hatchery hygiene.
  • Monitor oyster broodstock, spat, and larvae health, assessing the stage of gonadal development and reproductive maturation.
  • Carry out grading, sorting, and larval density adjustments to determine optimal feeding requirements for maintaining optimal larval conditions.
  • Establish and maintain all stages of microalgae production in an axenic environment, monitoring and assessing algal quality.
  • Accurately plan to ensure suitable strains and quantities of algae are produced before required and available as needed.
  • Conduct trials using existing and novel approaches to maximise spat settlement conditions and outcomes for a range of oyster species.


Requirements
  • Minimum of a Diploma or Associate Diploma in Applied Science, Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, or equivalent.
  • A current 'C' class drivers license.
