Electrical Power Systems Engineer

The role of Electrical Power Systems Engineer is a key position within the Electrical Engineering team. As a senior engineer, you will provide technical leadership and guidance on electrical power systems, ensuring they operate efficiently and effectively.

You will be responsible for producing deliverables according to industry best practices, codes and standards, design guides, and administrative practices. Your expertise in large mining and metals operations, as well as experience with High Voltage reticulation and power systems analysis, will be essential in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and/or supervise electrical calculations, power system studies, protection reports, and arc flash analysis, utilizing industry-standard modeling programs (ETAP, DIgSILENT, PSCAD etc.).
  • Lead the formulation of engineering concepts and design throughout all project phases, presenting these to project management and stakeholders.
  • Optimize system design to meet production targets, such as maximum capacity, operating schedule, availability, and utilization, while minimizing project CAPEX and OPEX requirements.
  • Provide engineering input to the specification, tender, evaluation, and award of complex electrical material and service requisitions.
  • Conduct or lead special or unique studies requiring unconventional or novel approaches or research techniques, using available guides and precedents and expanding where necessary.
  • Serve as a consultant to projects, providing advice on assignments with unique features.
  • Train and assist the development of other engineers within the electrical discipline.

Educational Requirements: A degree in Electrical Engineering or a professional license in an appropriate discipline from a recognized licensing board.

Required Skills: Extensive experience in areas including High Voltage system specification and design, Low Voltage system specification and design, Industrial power systems study and analysis, start-up, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, or process plants.
