About Us

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is dedicated to safeguarding individuals and properties throughout Queensland by delivering effective prevention, preparation, response, and recovery operations in various emergency scenarios. This agency encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS), the Rural Fire Service (RFS), and the State Emergency Service (SES), while also supporting additional volunteer groups that provide emergency assistance to the community.

Role Purpose

The QFES performs unique functions as the sole entity in Australia providing comprehensive fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a unified agency. This collaborative model enhances safety outcomes for the community by integrating efforts across the service and with key stakeholders.

Key Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

  1. Eligibility for a current Blue Card.
  2. Written consent from the employer to respond to incidents and emergencies (if applicable).
  3. Residence or employment within a reasonable distance of the auxiliary fire station.
  4. Australian Permanent Resident status.
  5. Possession of a Manual C Class driver's license.

QFES expects all auxiliary firefighters to adhere to the following commitments during their employment:

  1. Responding to incident and emergency calls –
  • 50% of calls as a day worker with regular hours; or
  • 30% of calls as a shift worker or during non-standard hours.
Participating in 75% of scheduled drills and training sessions.Acquiring an MRV license, at personal expense, within 12 months of employment.Engaging in ongoing skills development and maintenance programs, including first aid and emergency care.Adhering to QFES policies and procedures, including conduct, safety, and personal presentation standards.

Your Key Responsibilities

  1. As part of a team, respond to fire and other emergency situations. Note: Auxiliary Firefighters who have not completed all pre-operational aspects of ARTEP (FFGC085) may attend all activities related to their designated station, EXCEPT emergency incidents.
  2. Enhance community safety and emergency preparedness by participating in community education initiatives.
  3. Develop and maintain competencies by actively engaging in regular drills and relevant training courses provided by QFES to ensure safety and effectiveness on the fire ground.
  4. Meet the required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
  5. Safely and effectively operate specialized firefighting and rescue equipment.
  6. Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of station facilities.
  7. Ensure the upkeep and repair of operational equipment and station facilities.
  8. Assist with incident reporting and general station administration as necessary.
  9. As a vital member of the station team, appointees shall also:
  10. Foster a positive team environment in all work activities.
  11. Comply with legislative, policy, and procedural requirements relevant to the position.
  12. Communicate effectively with QFES personnel, other emergency service providers, and the community.
  13. Support a safe and healthy work environment by following organizational health principles and procedures.
