About Us

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is dedicated to safeguarding individuals and properties throughout Queensland. Our organization encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS), the Rural Fire Service (RFS), and the State Emergency Service (SES), alongside supporting numerous volunteer groups that provide essential emergency assistance to the community.

Role Purpose

The QFES stands as a unique entity in Australia, delivering exceptional fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a singular agency. This collaborative model enhances safety outcomes for the community by integrating efforts across services and key stakeholders.

Key Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

  1. Eligibility for a current Blue Card.
  2. Written consent from the employer to respond to incidents and emergencies (if applicable).
  3. Residence or employment within a reasonable distance of the auxiliary fire station.
  4. Australian Permanent Resident status.
  5. Possession of a Manual C Class driver's license.

All auxiliary firefighters are expected to adhere to the following commitments during their tenure:

  1. Responding to incident and emergency calls:
  • 50% of calls as a day worker with standard hours; or
  • 30% of calls as a shift worker or during non-standard hours.
Participating in 75% of regular drills and training sessions.Acquiring an MRV license at personal expense within the first year of employment.Engaging in ongoing skills development and maintenance programs, including first aid and emergency care.Complying with QFES policies and procedures, including the code of conduct and safety standards.

Your Responsibilities

  1. As part of a team, respond to fire and other emergency situations. Note: Auxiliary Firefighters who have not completed all pre-operational aspects of ARTEP (FFGC085) may attend all activities related to their designated station, except emergency incidents.
  2. Enhance community safety and emergency preparedness by participating in community education initiatives.
  3. Maintain and develop competencies by actively engaging in regular drills and relevant training courses provided by QFES to ensure safety and effectiveness on the fire ground.
  4. Meet the required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
  5. Safely and effectively operate specialized firefighting and rescue equipment.
  6. Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of station facilities.
  7. Ensure the upkeep and repair of operational equipment and station facilities.
  8. Assist with incident reporting and general station administration as needed.
  9. As a vital member of the station team, appointees are also expected to:
  10. Foster a positive team environment in all work activities.
  11. Adhere to legislative, policy, and procedural requirements relevant to the position.
  12. Communicate effectively with QFES personnel, other emergency service providers, and the general public.
  13. Support a safe and healthy work environment by following organizational health principles and procedures.
