About Us
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding individuals and properties throughout Queensland. Our agency is dedicated to delivering effective prevention, preparation, response, and recovery services during various emergency scenarios. We encompass the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS), the Rural Fire Service (RFS), and the State Emergency Service (SES), alongside supporting other volunteer organizations committed to emergency response.
Role Purpose
The unique functions of QFES position it as the sole organization in Australia that provides comprehensive fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a unified agency. This collaborative framework enhances safety outcomes for the community by integrating efforts across the service and with essential stakeholders.
Key Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
- Eligibility for a current Blue Card.
- Written consent from the employer to attend emergencies (if applicable).
- Proximity to an auxiliary fire station.
- Permanent residency in Australia.
- Possession of a Manual C Class driver's license.
Auxiliary firefighters are expected to adhere to the following commitments:
- Responding to emergency calls:
- 50% of calls as a day worker with standard hours; or
- 30% of calls as a shift worker or during non-standard hours.
Your Responsibilities
- Collaborate with your team to respond to fire and emergency incidents. Note: Auxiliary Firefighters who have not completed all pre-operational training may attend all activities related to their designated station, except for emergency incidents.
- Enhance community safety and emergency preparedness through participation in educational initiatives.
- Maintain and develop competencies by actively engaging in regular drills and relevant training courses provided by QFES to ensure effectiveness on the fire ground.
- Meet the required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
- Safely operate specialized firefighting and rescue equipment.
- Contribute to the cleanliness and maintenance of station facilities.
- Ensure operational equipment and station facilities are well-maintained and repaired.
- Assist with incident reporting and general station administration as necessary.
- As a vital member of the station team, you will also:
- Foster a positive team environment in all work activities.
- Comply with legislative, policy, and procedural requirements relevant to the position.
- Communicate effectively with QFES personnel, other emergency service providers, and the community.
- Support a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to organizational health principles and procedures.
