Job Overview

The Director Policy and Planning spearheads the development of strategic urban planning initiatives that align with the Urban Forest Strategy. This involves overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive plan to manage over 845,000 trees across parklands and streets, providing technical expertise on tree-related matters.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies that support the Urban Forest Strategy and promote sustainable urban design options to preserve and enhance Canberra's urban forest.
  • Lead and motivate a team to deliver programs that achieve the objectives outlined in the Urban Forest Strategy.
  • Offer expert advice on tree-related matters, inspiring and influencing individual and team outcomes.
Key Qualifications
  • A degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • A valid Driver's Licence Class C (Car) is essential.
Eligibility and Other Requirements

This is a temporary position available from mid-October until the end of February with the possibility of extension up to six months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
