The Kinship Care First Supports Program aims to identify and support kinship networks early, promoting placement stability and preventing unnecessary residential care placements for children. This comprehensive program assesses suitability of kinship care placements, considering risk factors, strengths and weaknesses, and individual child needs.
To achieve this goal, a Family Support Specialist will conduct thorough assessments and provide recommendations to Child Protection about kinship care placements. The specialist will work closely with kinship carers to address the child's safety, stability, and developmental needs, ensuring a stable and nurturing environment.
This vital role requires a deep understanding of family dynamics, social services, and child development. The Family Support Specialist must be able to build strong relationships with kinship carers, children, and other stakeholders, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing the unique needs of each child and family.
In addition to assessing placement suitability, the Family Support Specialist will also identify opportunities for family reunification and support kinship carers in responding to the child's needs. By taking a proactive and supportive approach, the specialist can help prevent children from entering residential care unnecessarily.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of kinship care placements
- Provide recommendations to Child Protection regarding placement suitability
- Support kinship carers in addressing child safety, stability, and developmental needs
- Identify opportunities for family reunification
- Build strong relationships with kinship carers, children, and other stakeholders
Benefits:
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families. As a Family Support Specialist, you will have the chance to develop your skills and expertise in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, working collaboratively with a dedicated team to achieve exceptional outcomes.
