Monash University is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to contribute to a cutting-edge project investigating neonatal brain injury and neurodevelopmental follow-up. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team based at Monash Newborn and Department of Paediatrics, with close links to the Ritchie Centre at The Hudson Institute of Medical Research.
Project OverviewThis PhD program aims to utilise state-of-the-art multi-channel near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to assess the functional brain response of infants born preterm in long-term follow-up. The project will focus on correlations between neurovascular physiology, neuroimaging, and neurodevelopmental assessments, with the goal of detecting socio-cognitive disorders early in preterm infants.
Research TeamThe principal supervisor will be Associate Professor Flora Wong, a consultant neonatologist and clinician-scientist with research expertise in neonatal brain development, brain injury, and neuroprotection. Co-supervisors will include Dr Robin Laycock, a vision neuroscientist at RMIT University, and other experts depending on the project focus.
