Job Title: Operations Supervisor

 

At Fortescue, we are leading the world with our plan to decarbonise our iron ore operations and harness renewable energy.

 

The Mine Controller's primary objective is to ensure safe, efficient and smooth operation of mining fleet during and after transition to Fortex fleet management system.

 

This role plays key part in supporting Supervisor - Mine Control by managing real-time fleet performance and helping adopt new system features and processes.

 

As we move from existing Fleet Management system to Fortex, Mine Controller will play important role in embedding new workflows, focusing on improving efficiency and reducing manual interventions by adopting an 'intervene by exception' approach.

 

The Mine Controller works closely with Supervisor and other teams to improve control room operations, refine processes and enhance communication between control, operations and support teams.

 

This role helps ensure that control room practices align with Fortescue's goals for operational excellence, safety and innovation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and control fleet operations in real-time to ensure safety, efficiency and productivity.
  • Address issues promptly and escalate when necessary.
  • Assist in transitioning from existing Fleet Management system to in-house Fortex FMS system ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Implement and adhere to new processes, workflows and standards that align with adoption of Fortex system.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance control room efficiency, focusing on transitioning from active control intervention to an 'intervene by exception' model.
  • Maintain clear communication and coordination with operational and support teams to ensure alignment with site objectives and seamless issue resolution.
  • Participate in testing and commissioning of Fortex functionalities providing valuable feedback to support system improvements.
  • Ensure accurate collection monitoring and analysis of operational data to support decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Adhere to all safety standards procedures and regulations ensuring that control room activities align with safety and environmental policies.
  • Support training and development of team members in adopting new technologies and processes to improve overall control room capabilities.
  • Actively contribute to Fortescue's broader objectives of achieving Net Zero driving innovation and enhancing sustainable mining practices.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in mine control or similar operational roles within mining industry.
  • Proficiency with fleet management systems such as Minestar Fortex or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience supporting transitions or implementations of new technologies or systems in operational environment.
  • Familiarity with principles and practices related to autonomous mining operations highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to address and resolve operational challenges in high-pressure time-sensitive situations.
  • Strong understanding of fleet management systems and control room technologies.
  • Ability to analyse data and operational performance to identify trends and optimise processes.
  • Clear and concise communication skills to collaborate across teams and provide timely updates.
  • Confident in making informed decisions quickly in dynamic fast-paced environments.
  • Flexibility to learn and implement new technologies workflows and practices effectively.
