As a Navy Hydrographer, you will have the opportunity to work in a diverse and exciting field that combines surveying, navigation, and leadership skills. Your role will involve leading teams undertaking survey work in support of various military operations, including beach landings and route identification through minefields.

You will be trained as a leader, mariner, and surveyor, with a career path that is both challenging and rewarding. You will gain many technical skills, utilizing a wide range of software and hardware in a rapidly evolving field.

The salary for this role starts at $65,075 during trade training, with potential earnings up to $169,941. In addition to a competitive salary, you will also receive additional allowances for time spent in the field, at sea, overseas, or deployed on operations.

Beyond your salary, you will enjoy a range of benefits, including access to your Service marae or tūrangawaewae, sponsored tertiary study programs at all levels, free access to gyms and swimming pools on camp and bases, opportunities to travel, and free and subsidized medical and dental care.

To be eligible for this role, you must be at least 17 years old, pass an Officer Selection Board, hold an NCEA Level 2 certificate, and meet minimum entry fitness standards. You must also be medically fit for service and meet strict citizenship and security requirements to gain the TSV security clearance required for this trade.
