Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice and representation to clients as part of an integrated service, including at remote outreach locations.
  • Offer professional support, mentorship, and supervision to other staff as required, including legal interns and pro bono lawyers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify law reform priorities and develop strategies to address them.
  • Maintain relationships with referring agencies, key organisations, community leaders, and local people relevant to the area.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance knowledge and skills required for the position.
Selection Criteria
  • Eligibility to hold a practising certificate in WA (restricted or unrestricted).
  • Proven casework and advocacy experience in generalist areas of law, including tenancy, child protection, family violence, or family law.
  • Experience working in community-based organisations in remote and rural Australia.
  • Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills with ability to apply these skills effectively.
  • Critical written skills, including ability to write sophisticated legal concepts in plain language.
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Understanding and commitment to principles of social justice and effective working relationships with Indigenous people.
  • Experience advising and representing people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Personal resilience and adaptability in meeting challenges of remote service delivery.
