About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Coupled Ice Sheet-Ocean Modeller to join our research team. As part of this unique opportunity, you will work with Australia's Climate Simulator (ACCESS-NRI) to develop a cutting-edge ice sheet-ocean model.

Main Responsibilities
  • You will couple the ISSM ice-sheet model with the ACCESS-OM3 ocean and sea-ice model.
  • Your task will be to refine and optimize the coupled model for improved computational performance and numerical reliability.
  • You will also implement new basal melt parameterisations and iceberg calving mechanisms.
  • In addition, you will contribute to the development of HPC-optimized ISSM configurations and engage with the ACCESS-NRI Ice Sheet Modelling Team.
Key Requirements
  • You must hold a PhD in glaciology, oceanography, computational modelling or a related field.
  • You should have experience with numerical modelling, particularly ice sheet dynamics and ocean processes.
  • A strong technical proficiency in software development and optimization for high-performance computing environments is essential.
  • You should be proficient in Python, C++ and Fortran programming.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to publish research outcomes in peer-reviewed journals are required.
