As a Barrage Attendant, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our barrages and lock chambers. You will work closely with our management team, customers, and contractors to deliver exceptional service and meet customer needs.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the team to achieve goals and provide input into decision-making processes.
  • Ensuring safe public access to the lock and public facilities.
  • Maintaining a high level of service that meets customer expectations.
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with other agencies, landholders, and customers.
  • Participating in team meetings, work planning, training, and development programs as required.
  • Assisting with fish movement monitoring and providing data according to the requested schedule.
  • Assisting with the operation of barrages to maintain water levels and quality.
  • Operating lock chambers to allow safe navigation passage along the river and establishing the navigable pass during periods of high flow.
  • Assisting with fishway operation and maintenance, fish tagging, monitoring fish movement, and recording statistical data daily.

Your success in this role will depend on your ability to:

Essential:

  • Utilize basic computer skills in common applications such as Word, Excel, and Email.
  • Effectively use electronic measuring devices, plant, equipment, and hand tools.
  • Identify and report hazards, near misses, and incidents using JHA's and SWP's.
  • Communicate effectively (both written and verbal) and undertake basic calculations.
  • Hold a White Card.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of river systems and general operation of barrages and lock and environmental structures.
  • Restricted Coxswain Certificate and Boat Licence.
  • Forklift licence and/or any other relevant tickets.
