The Retail Strategy Manager will lead the development and implementation of the Retail Strategy to optimize the retail landscape across UNSW's campuses, fostering strong retail partnerships to deliver a world-class campus experience.
The role adopts a data-driven approach to curate the ideal tenancy mix, manage leasing transactions, and devise marketing plans aimed at enhancing the overall retail experience for students, staff, and visitors.
Key responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive retail strategy aligned with the university's mission, campus culture, and long-term goals.
- Identify suitable retail partners and negotiate lease agreements that complement the university's objectives and cater to the diverse needs of the community.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to assess the demand for various retail offerings and optimize the mix accordingly.
- Utilize market research, demographic data, and consumer behavior insights to understand the needs and preferences of the university community. Conduct regular analysis of retail trends, competitor strategies, and industry benchmarks to inform decision-making.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal teams (Design, Development & Delivery, FM) while assisting tenants through the fit-out design & approval process.
- Monitor performance metrics and feedback to continually refine the tenancy mix and ensure a vibrant and sustainable retail environment.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing tenants, addressing their concerns and fostering a collaborative atmosphere.
- Stay updated on market dynamics and leasing trends to capitalize on emerging opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Design and execute marketing campaigns to raise awareness of campus retail offerings and drive foot traffic.
- Generate regular reports and presentations to communicate insights, trends, and recommendations to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Real Estate, Marketing or a related field.
- Extensive experience in leading and managing retail precincts, developing retail strategies and approaches to retail mix, including the end-to-end lease negotiation and management process.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data interpretation, market trend analysis, and financial analysis.
- Excellent consultation, influencing, and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
- Demonstrated strategic thinker with a creative mindset and a passion for innovation.
- Comprehensive understanding of the NSW Retail Leases Act.
- Extensive understanding of contract management and negotiation of lease documentation.
- Proven ability to set priorities and meet tight deadlines and contribute in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team atmosphere.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, build consensus, and lead cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft office suite and familiarity with data analytics tools.
