Job Overview
The role of a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist In Charge is to oversee the operation of a laboratory section, ensuring high-quality diagnostic services in support of patient care. This position involves leading a team and contributing to the advancement of public health through innovative laboratory practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory.
- Oversee the quality, operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resource management, business operations and resource allocation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
- A customer-focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills, good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and policy implementation.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems.
- Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting.
- Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems, supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems.
- Extensive knowledge of working within the relevant section of the laboratory, operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory.
- Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Mass Spectrometry techniques and analysis, including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, Full Ion Scan, SIM, MRM Targeted methods. Proven ability to troubleshoot assays and instrumentation issues. Sound understanding of Toxicology and Pharmacology, including metabolic pathways of common drugs and drug classes.
