About The OpportunityAn exciting opportunity is available for a passionate and experienced Microbiology Scientist to join the NSW Health Pathology Microbiology and Serology Department at the newly developed Liverpool Hospital Precinct. We are seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to fill a permanent full-time position within our world-class pathology laboratory, which is equipped with innovative automation technologies.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical laboratory skills and a customer-focused approach, along with attention to detail. Demonstrated experience in documentation and report writing, well-developed organisational and managerial abilities, and proven leadership capabilities are essential. Exceptional communication and teaching skills are also critical. You will be part of a large, dedicated team of scientists and doctors delivering high-quality diagnostic services to patients across the South Western Sydney Local Health District.

Responsible for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resources, business and resource management.
Qualifications- Bachelor degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Customer-focused approach with well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to communicate policies and procedures effectively with customers, patients and clinical/laboratory staff; ability to evaluate scientific data statistically.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of NSW and Australian accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems.
- Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting.
- Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of electronic-based Quality Management Systems.
- Extensive high-level knowledge of working within the relevant section of the laboratory, with knowledge of operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory.
- Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy.
