Lead Governance and Risk Functions

As a key member of our team, you will oversee the development and implementation of governance and risk frameworks to ensure the effective management of enterprise-wide risks.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive governance and risk management frameworks to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risks.
  • Chair the audit, risk, and improvement committee (ARIC) to promote high standards of governance and compliance across the organization.
  • Ensure statutory compliance, corporate registers, and integrated planning/reporting obligations are met in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Manage the council's insurance portfolio and provide strategic advice on risk management practices.
  • Act as the public officer and manage Freedom of Information (GIPA) and privacy matters in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert governance advice to the executive, managers, and councillors to support informed decision-making.
  • Lead and mentor staff to develop a strong, values-based team culture that fosters collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Postgraduate qualifications in governance, law, policy, risk management, or business (or be actively working towards completion).
  • Demonstrated experience in governance, legal, or administrative roles involving risk management practices.
  • Sound understanding of relevant legislation and ability to interpret and apply statutory requirements with accuracy and confidence.
  • Experience working in the local government sector or other government body (highly valued).
  • Post-graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline (highly valued).
  • Demonstrated skills in mentoring and developing staff (highly valued).
