Job Title

Pacific Adaptation/Loss And Damage Policy Analyst is a critical role in providing technical input and support to Climate Analytics' projects in the Pacific region, focusing on climate change adaptation and loss and damage.

  • Enhance scientific understanding of loss and damage through analysis and research
  • Support stakeholders to strengthen policies and plans for climate change adaptation and loss and damage
  • Build relationships with project partners and stakeholders to develop locally appropriate responses to non-economic loss and damage

The successful applicant will be expected to work on other projects which have an adaptation or loss and damage focus, including providing support at UNFCCC negotiations.

Responsibilities

Conduct desktop assessments of available L&D projection methods

  • Undertake reviews of existing policies and work with partners and stakeholders to enhance these
  • Conduct qualitative assessments of adaptation limits in 4 target countries
  • Support the development and testing of methodologies to assess Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD)
  • Support the development and delivery of small-scale pilot projects to trial responses to loss and damage, including NELD
About The Diplomacy Team

This position will be embedded within the diplomacy team due to the strategic nature of the projects, which involve engaging with governments, regional organizations, and international forums.

The role requires close collaboration with the implementation strategies team, reflecting the emphasis on designing and delivering actionable climate solutions for the pacific region. Given the interdisciplinary nature of adaptation work, the position will also work closely with the science team, particularly the adaptation and loss and damage science group and the socio-economic impacts group, to ensure that science-based evidence informs the development and implementation of innovative strategies.

Your Profile

Essential skills and experience include:

  • A master's degree in climate change, climate science, climate change adaptation policy, or a related field
  • At least 4 years' experience in climate change adaptation, research, and policy analysis, with a focus on SIDS
  • Experience with data analysis, research, climate vulnerability assessment, climate risk analysis
  • Good understanding of adaptation and loss and damage policies and plans
  • Solid track record of qualitative methods of data collection

The successful candidate will possess excellent analytical and writing skills, with the ability to summarize and synthesize large volumes of information and/or data for project recommendations/actions.
