This role sits in the Planning Services branch and will support the development, implementation and review of City strategies, plans, policies, projects and programmes that assist the City with climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The key responsibilities of this role include:

Research and continue to develop the City's Climate Change Response Plan, including corporate adaptation and community mitigation and adaptation sections of the Plan.
Research climate change in global and local contexts to ensure the City remains abreast of latest developments to continue best practice.
Implement and/or liaise with, and provide advice to, business units on the implementation of the City's Climate Change Response Plan.
Report on progress towards targets and actions in the City's Climate Change Response Plan.
Attend and represent the City at external working groups as required.
Work with other internal branches to ensure the City's sustainability objectives relevant to climate change are being met.
Prepare reports for consideration by Council.
Act as Coordinator Heritage & Climate Change, as required.
Any other duties as required by the Manager Planning Services.

Essential criteria:

Degree in Sustainability, Climate Science, Environmental Science or equivalent and /or equivalent relevant degree.
A strong understanding of climate science, policies, and mitigation and adaptation strategies and initiatives.
Ability to interpret the relevant acts and legislation and associated technical documents
Experience with carbon inventories and the requirements for carbon neutral certification (Climate Active).

Ability to gather, analyse, and report on insights and trends from emissions data.
A self-starter, collaborator, team player and effective communicator (verbal and written).
Creative and analytical skills with an ability to conceptualise and bring to fruition projects and strategic initiatives.
A high level of organisational ability in planning, prioritising and achieving outcomes to deadlines.
A commitment to providing leadership and services that promote and support sustainability.
Experience in coordinating the provision of expert technical advice.
Demonstrated problem solving, research and analytical skills.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare a range of correspondence and reports for a range of stakeholders.
Well-developed ability to use corporate computer skills.

Salary package:
In line with the City of Subiaco Inside Staff Industrial Agreement 2025, this position is classified as a Level 6.
The salary range is $97,864.00 to $107,640.00 per annum, exclusive of superannuation.
