Job Title: Data Engineering Specialist

The Victoria Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineering Specialist to join its team. As a senior data engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of priority enhancements and improvements to data platforms, data and insights enabled solutions, data and information management initiatives, business processes, and overall capability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the team to assess enhancement requests, understand time and resource costs, tasks, and skills required, and project planning.
  • Identify enterprise needs; design and build solutions for spatial and non-spatial data acquisition and ingestion, warehousing, architecture, and engineering based on requirements.
  • Provide second and third-level IT support, problem troubleshooting, and change support as they relate to the data engineering platform and products.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including define and design, service level agreements, interface agreements, quick reference guides, data registries.
Requirements:
  • Highly proficient in leading design and development of data solutions using modern data technologies.
  • Proven expertise in developing scalable data pipelines and physical data models, driving best practices in efficient data management.
  • Experience supporting BI and data science workflows. Hands-on experience in SQL and Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, monitor, and deliver multiple concurrent projects/programs, including risk identification and management; optimize the allocation and use of resources; and evaluate project/program effectiveness.
  • Experience leading technical work at an advanced level.
  • Familiarity with agile ways of working.
