Job Title: Policy and Advocacy Manager

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Policy and Advocacy Manager. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in planning, coordinating, implementing, and overseeing our systemic advocacy, law reform, community legal education, and project activities.

  • This position provides leadership and management to the Social Action and Public Interest Law team, working closely with the Managing Lawyer, Strategic Litigation. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management, supervision, and support of staff.
  • You will provide leadership to the whole organization as a part of the Management Team, contributing to the successful achievement of our strategic plan and fulfillment of our key reporting obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and oversee systemic advocacy, law reform, community legal education, and project activities.
  • Provide leadership and management to the Social Action and Public Interest Law team.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of our strategic plan.
  • Manage and evaluate projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop responses to policy and law reform issues, including campaigns, submissions, lobbying, networking, and participation in consultation processes.
Requirements:
  • A law degree.
  • At least three years' experience in a relevant role, such as social policy, community-driven advocacy, management, or project management.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and the values of our organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage people and foster a positive, productive, and engaged team.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and develop responses to policy and law reform issues.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
Desirable Skills:
  • Eligibility to become an Australian Legal Practitioner.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading or supporting co-design activities and/or working with people with lived experience of discrimination and stigma.
