Director Litigation

The QLD Department of Justice is seeking a seasoned lawyer to lead its litigation team.

This senior leadership role presents an opportunity to contribute to the regulation of Queensland's legal profession.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal advice on Commissioner functions, statutory responsibilities and service deliverables.
  • Lead and effectively manage the Commission's litigation team.
  • Prepare, instruct and appear in discipline applications, prosecution of summary offences, injunction applications and other enforcement action.
  • Advise, mentor, support and provide leadership to staff of the Commission.
  • Review, develop and drive complex legislative and policy change designed to enhance the Commission's undertaking of its statutory obligations and regulatory functions.
Requirements:
  • Be admitted as an Australian lawyer and eligible to obtain a practising certificate in Queensland.
  • Abide by the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules and display high standards of professional ethical conduct at all times.
  • Be responsible for a number of statutory delegations on behalf of the Commissioner from time to time.
