About the Role

APG Workforce is seeking a highly skilled Senior Health and Safety Advisor to join our team in a Local Council in Camden. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in shaping and influencing the community's health and safety culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of Council's Safety Management Systems across all work areas, including construction and major project sites.
  • Provide expert advice on safety laws and risk management for high-risk work, such as construction, excavation, and the use of equipment.
  • Assist staff and managers in meeting safety laws and ensure that contractors adhere to these standards.
  • Help achieve high safety standards among managers, employees, and contractors.
  • Conduct and assist with safety audits and investigations.
  • Monitor and report on safety performance across Council.
  • Serve as an advisor on the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Committee.
  • Regularly inspect Council workplaces for hazards and apply appropriate safety measures.
  • Take action to enhance health and safety within your area.
  • Stay updated on changes in WHS laws and practices and inform relevant parties.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor WHS procedures.
  • Build strong relationships with union representatives, delegates, and employees on safety and well-being matters.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS or a related discipline.
  • Construction industry general induction (white card).
  • Construction industry experience in a safety leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing safety systems in an operational / trade environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NSW WHS Act and Heavy Vehicle National Law.
  • Ability to provide advice and support to enable internal customers to meet WHS legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to a broad range of internal customers in relation to both strategic and operational matters.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion on staff issues.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Desirable: Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
  • Experience undertaking safety audits and investigations.
  • Experience in Local Government.
