About the Role

Barnardos Australia is one of Australia's leading children's social care agencies, committed to supporting vulnerable children to thrive. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Family Preservation and Restoration Specialist for a full-time contract until June 2025 in the Yurungai Child and Family Service based in Marrickville.

This position is specifically targeted at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We encourage applicants from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background to apply, as well as non-Aboriginal individuals who share our commitment to cultural sensitivity and understanding.

Job Responsibilities
  • We are seeking a dedicated Caseworker to undertake primary case work and deliver services to children and families through regular home visiting.
  • The successful candidate will conduct SCARF assessments in partnership with families and other agencies, reviewing progress and ensuring appropriate advocacy services are provided on behalf of clients.
  • They will also refer families to external services where necessary, maintaining a child-focused approach while supporting parents to maintain or re-establish parental responsibilities.
  • Additionally, the ideal candidate will provide practical assistance, including financial literacy support, to alleviate poverty and disadvantage.
  • They will monitor child protection issues, consult with their supervisor, and act in accordance with The NSW Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998.
  • The Family Preservation and Restoration Specialist must be flexible with their working hours, meeting families at times that suit them best.
Requirements
  • We are looking for an individual with knowledge of child development and parenting capacity, as well as experience working with children and young people in a child protection context.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience using electronic case management tools and be available to participate in a 24-hour on-call roster to support kin carers, birth families, and their children/young people.
About You
  • You will ideally possess knowledge of trauma-informed practice, its delivery, and the effects of trauma on child development and family functioning.
  • A strong understanding of current child protection legislation and policies is essential.
  • Your ability to work collaboratively with families, colleagues, and external agencies will be crucial in this role.
What We Offer
  • We offer a competitive salary range of $73,804 to $94,324 per annum, plus leave loading and superannuation.
  • In addition, you will receive packaging opportunities to receive up to $15,860 of your salary tax-free.
  • Motor vehicle packaging is available for selected roles.
