Job Description

As an Automation Specialist at Embedded Expertise, you will play a critical role in the delivery of automation work packages across various capital projects. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work on process line equipment upgrades, including electrical and automation equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Automation Programming
    • Develop and implement automation solutions using PLCs and Safety PLCs, with expertise in automation interfacing and protocols such as Profibus & Profinet.
    • Design and implement new PLC hardware and software from scratch.
    • Analyze and troubleshoot existing PLC code.
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) Development
    • Design and implement HMI programming and specification, with experience in brands such as Citect, Panel View and WinCC.
  • Commissioning and Testing
    • Develop commissioning and test plans to validate safety PLC code.
  • Training and Development
    • Conduct hardware and software training for technical personnel.
  • Alarm Design and Fault-Finding
    • Design and implement efficient alarm systems and fault-finding guides.
  • Project Support
    • Provide input to all phases of a project within the automation scope of services, as required by the Project Manager/Engineer.
  • System Design
    • Design electrical and automated control systems, including HMI development.
  • Technical Documentation
    • Create project technical performance specifications and functional descriptions.
  • Technology Selection
    • Select the appropriate technology for projects, including PLCs, drives, instruments, sensors, valves, actuators, MCCs, motors, etc., and ensure compatibility.
  • Design Drawings
    • Design drawings for construction of physical components of electrical and automation systems, including single line diagrams, motor control schematics/specifications, control panel layout & design, electrical power distribution systems design and specification, I/O wiring, loop drawings, network system design.
  • Reporting and Communication
    • Prepare technical reports and client correspondences/presentations to project stakeholders.
  • Procurement and Installation
    • Review and prepare detailed specifications and contract documents for procurement of major electrical and controls equipment, as well as construction document packages.
    • Actively involved and responsible for installation and commissioning of automation work packages for specific capital projects.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Electrical or Automation engineering background, including Instrumentation and PLC systems, with an associated Automation Controls, Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 3 years relevant industrial experience and participation in the development of engineering projects as part of a multidisciplinary team (preferably including different products and technologies in Automation areas).
  • Skills
    • Extensive experience with PLC level, SCADA, or communication protocols required for semi-auto or full automation of tools or material handling systems.
    • Strong preference for experience with Siemens 300 and 1500 series PLC.
    • Ability to troubleshoot using P&ID and electrical diagrams.
    • Knowledge of Ethernet I/O networks.
