Job Overview

We are seeking talented individuals to play a key role in maximising participation in the 2026 Census.

As a remote census engagement professional, you will connect with stakeholders and members of the community in regional and remote areas.

You will assist operational teams in achieving outcomes through targeted engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver census engagement activities for assigned regions.
  • Maintain records of engagement activities via stakeholder management systems.
  • Develop, update and review engagement plans for areas of responsibility.
  • Promote participation in the census through community visits, promotional activities and presentations.
  • Connect with the community, establish networks and maintain relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with other census and staff in areas, providing cultural considerations and area-level intelligence.
  • Gather support from local government and community organisations, as well as key service providers.
  • Provide in-field assistance when required for operational activities.
  • Maintain safe working environments, including when working from home or travelling in remote areas.
  • Complete administration forms such as timesheets and other duties as directed.
  • Store census promotional materials securely.
  • Provide regular updates to remote operations management teams.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge in working with or advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Ability to connect and engage with a range of service providers, communicate effectively, and develop strong working relationships.
  • Communicating sensitively and effectively to present information to both small and large groups or communities.
  • Capability to work independently, prioritise tasks with limited guidance, and make decisions independently.
  • Sound local area knowledge and the ability to read and navigate maps.
