The role of a Senior Medical Officer in Immunisation Policy and Practice is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strengthening of immunisation programs in the Indo-Pacific Region.

Key areas of work include supporting countries in their immunisation policy decision-making, program implementation, vaccine safety surveillance, and activities related to gathering evidence to evaluate and inform immunisation programs.

The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic team engaged across both national and regional immunisation and vaccine preventable disease control priorities, with an overall health-system strengthening lens.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support and supervising evidence-based research relevant to immunisation policy and practice at the state, national, and/or international level.
  • High-quality scientific writing and presentation skills, especially those directed at clinical and public health audiences, which draw on extensive knowledge of the clinical applicability of public health-related data.
  • Providing leadership and coordination for policy and/or surveillance, program evaluation, vaccine safety, and global health areas (including immunisation program strengthening and vaccine policy support) as required.
  • Supervision, teaching, and training to relevant staff, professional trainees, and students.
  • Management and supervision of multidisciplinary teams within NCIRS staff.
  • Opportunities for active participation in other relevant activities and research projects undertaken by NCIRS.

The successful applicant will be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title in the Faculty of Medicine and Health of The University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, in either the Discipline of Child and Adolescent Health, or the School of Public Health. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.

Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Public Health, Infectious Diseases, or Similar, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.

Demonstrated experience with the use of biomedical literature and relevant bibliographic databases, familiarity with methods of systematic literature review and framework for evidence-informed development of clinical practice guidelines and/or population health policies.
