Job Overview

The NT Remote Locum Program is a workforce initiative that aims to strengthen healthcare services in remote communities across the Northern Territory.

Position Summary

We are seeking experienced General Practitioners to provide treatment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in remote NT communities. This locum-based role offers short-term placements where you will work on-site in remote clinics, delivering culturally safe, high-quality care in collaboration with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, General Practitioners, nurses, and support staff.

  • This locum placement provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience working in remote healthcare settings while making a positive impact on the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Key Responsibilities

As a General Practitioner with our program, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing high-quality medical care to patients in remote NT communities;
  • Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive healthcare services;
  • Culturally safely communicating with patients and their families;
  • Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must have:

  • A fellowship with either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine;
  • A minimum of 250 hours of relevant full-time clinical experience working as a general practitioner within the past 12 months;
  • Evidence of completion of current and previous triennium requirements and active participation in continuing education recognised by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Quality Assurance and Continuous Professional Development (RACGP QA & CPD) or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine-Professional Development Program (ACRRM PDP) or other specialist college, as applicable;
  • Evidence of current professional indemnity insurance as a General Practitioner (Level 1);
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
