Job Opportunity: Cultural Mentor

The Aboriginal Skills Coach plays a pivotal role in collaborating with an enthusiastic team of professionals to implement Treatment Foster Care of Oregon (TFCO), a highly acclaimed, evidence-based intervention.

This unique opportunity enables the successful candidate to provide guidance and cultural support as a skills coach/mentor to make a meaningful impact in the community.

Treatment Foster Care Oregon for Children (TFCO) is an evidence-based treatment program that supports and treats young people and children with complex emotional and/or behavioral difficulties including aggression, poor school engagement, poor peer relationships, poor coping and social skills, low self-esteem, and difficulties with self-regulation who are at risk of entering into residential care or transitioning from residential care into more suitable home-based care arrangements such as foster care, kinship care, or living with parents.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing regular skills coaching to TFCO children/young people focusing on strategic modelling, skill practice, and positive reinforcement in sessions.
  • Documenting each skills coaching session in a timely manner and submitting them to the TFCO Program Supervisor.
  • Receiving supervision from the TFCO Program Supervisor and attending weekly treatment team meetings.

Required qualifications and skills include:

  • Experience in Youth Work, Education, or Sport would be highly valued.
  • Knowledge of behavior management principles.
  • Skill building and training experience specifically with young people.
  • A valid driving license is essential.
  • Ability to engage young people in activities.

Essential qualifications include tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Community Development, or Social Work, or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.

As a Cultural Mentor, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a dedicated team to provide comprehensive support services to vulnerable young people and their families. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
