Importance of This Role

The Salvation Army stands as one of Australia's leading providers of alcohol and other drug services. We deliver a diverse array of services, including Harm Reduction and Primary Health Services, along with various treatment options such as residential rehabilitation centers, community support programs, counseling, and withdrawal management services.

Role Overview

We are looking for a values-oriented and proactive AOD Support Worker to deliver both practical and emotional assistance while facilitating program engagement for participants in Residential Rehabilitation who are facing challenges related to alcohol and/or other drug (AOD) use.

This is a Casual position reporting to the Support Work Coordinator, located in The Basin, Victoria. Salary and conditions are aligned with the SCHADS Award Level 4.

The ideal candidate should be prepared to participate in a 24/7 support worker roster, which includes:

  • Morning Shift (7am – 3:30pm)
  • Afternoon Shift (3pm – 11pm)
  • Sleepover Shift (3pm – 8:30am)
  • Night Shift (Active) (10:45pm – 7:15am)
Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize appropriate risk assessment models to evaluate levels of risk, harm, and well-being, including immediate risks.
  • Implement effective procedures and strategies to manage crisis situations.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies tailored to the needs of clients.
  • Transport clients to their appointments.
  • Conduct scheduled and random breathalyzer and urine screenings.
  • Facilitate group sessions, gather feedback, and document attendance.
  • Organize various social activities to keep participants actively engaged and supervise them during outings or while involved in environmental care.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A Degree in social work, psychology, addiction counseling, or a related field.
  • A Certificate IV (or equivalent) in AOD interventions or the necessary competencies to work within the AOD Sector.
  • Current certifications in First Aid (HLTAID001) and CPR (HLTAID009).
  • A valid Victorian Employee Working with Children Check.
  • A current Victorian Driver License.
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment and the AOD sector.
  • Experience working with women from diverse backgrounds with complex support needs.
  • Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent; minimum Diploma preferred.
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment.
