Genomic Research Assistant Role

This role presents an opportunity to participate in genomic research as a specialist in specimen processing and molecular techniques.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, extraction, and analysis of DNA/RNA samples under the guidance of experienced researchers. This includes quality control checks, detailed record-keeping, and inventory management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and prepare human specimens for further analysis, ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols
  • Perform DNA/RNA extractions, including high-molecular weight DNA extraction, and conduct quality control assessments
  • Maintain accurate records and manage sample inventories effectively
  • Support team members in coordinating research activities and facilitating communication between departments
  • Assist in data entry, word processing, and maintaining laboratory spreadsheets, contributing to efficient workflow
Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent training and experience
  • Proven experience in working with human specimens and performing molecular techniques such as RT-qPCR, DNA/RNA extractions, and high-molecular weight (HMW) DNA extraction
  • Excellent documentation skills, proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and basic computational tools
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, ensuring effective collaboration and correspondence
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with internal teams and external partners
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, adaptability to new techniques, and willingness to learn
  • High level of organisation, trustworthiness, and ability to prioritise tasks effectively
