Defence Technology Innovation Leader

Establish and lead a purpose-built defence technologies academy in support of Australia's defence, industry, and government sectors.

The Academy will provide research and training capabilities for advanced technologies and innovation critical to the defence industry and applicable across other sectors. Our goal is to establish a global hub of defence-related activity through:

  • Purpose-built secure facilities for defence research;
  • A lifelong learning academy at the cutting edge of technology research, enabling research training, continuous learning, reskilling, and upskilling for an industry-ready workforce;
  • Leveraging collaboration across industry, VET, academic partners, and with other research and innovation initiatives for economic and job-creation outcomes;
  • Fostering a strategic connected global approach and culture for research and innovation, excellence, and asymmetric advantage.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Build a collaborative ecosystem across defence, industry, government, and academic sectors nationally and internationally.
  2. Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Defence Technologies Academy, fostering cutting-edge research and education in close collaboration with stakeholders.
  3. Establish research and innovation capacity to enable research-linked and industry-enriched education, training, and talent development supporting Australia's defence priorities and workforce capability needs.
  4. Drive increased workforce participation in defence and national security sectors, supporting skills requirements, sovereign capability development, and long-term competitive success.
