The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping initiative that will provide a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, ensuring quicker and safer journeys, and removing thousands of trucks from residential streets.
About the Project
The project involves:
- Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
- Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
- Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River, providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
- Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
- Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

The Position
As the Project Engineer for the West Gate Tunnel, your responsibilities will include:
- Coordination and administration of construction engineering activities;
- Assisting with the preparation of site construction reports;
- Monitoring the construction progress for adherence to programme;
- Ensuring that construction activities are in accordance with project specifications/drawings;
- Interface and coordinate with other zones.
About You
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- Minimum 5 years mechanical engineering experience, preferably site-based;
- Demonstrated experience in MVAC, Hydraulics, Tunnel Ventilation, Fire design, installation, and commissioning;
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, and Science;
- Proven experience working on Tier 1 projects, tunnelling, and/or open road specific experience.
