Family and Carer Peer Support Role

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of families and carers of mental health consumers. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that aims to promote recovery and well-being through quality services.

About the Role

The Family and Carer Peer Support Worker will provide advocacy, education, and support to families and carers of mental health consumers. This will involve working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to implement the Family Focus Recovery Framework in practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing advocacy, education, and interventions to families and carers of mental health consumers.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to implement the Family Focus Recovery Framework in practice.
  • Developing resources and delivering information to families and carers; facilitating education and group interventions to support recovery principles.
  • Contributing to quality improvement activities and participating in meetings.
  • Draw on lived experience to build empathic relationships and support planning, delivery, and evaluation of services.
Requirements
  • Lived experience as a family member or carer for a person experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health promotion or related discipline or extensive experience in the health promotion field, or combination of both study and work experience; for Non-Grad a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
  • Experience accessing and navigating healthcare services.
  • Knowledge of current local, State, and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health.
  • Familiar with lived experience values and principles, recovery principles, trauma-informed care.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills including proficient IT skills for quality written documentation.
  • Demonstrated interest in new knowledge and emerging practices relevant to Family and Carer Peer Support Worker.
  • Current Drivers Licence (or willingness to travel).

Working Arrangements

This is a permanent full-time and part-time position located at Sutherland Hospital campus, Caringbah. The successful applicant will be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, and may be required to travel to other locations within the Local Health District.
