Experienced Property Underwriter

The role involves driving excellence in property underwriting and shaping the company's growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess complex underwriting data, identify potential opportunities, and mitigate risks.
  • Expand the property account while maintaining a focus on bottom-line underwriting profit.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and brokers to foster trust and understanding of their needs.
  • Underwrite and price property risks, including various forms of primary, excess of loss, and quota share, and determine their acceptability.
  • Prepare quotations and formal proposals on new and renewal business, ensuring timely and accurate completion of documentation according to standards.
  • Assist with the development and evolution of divisional pricing, accumulation, catastrophe management assessments, and other line-related requirements.

Requirements:

  • Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Full understanding of the insurance industry and client/broker/insurer relationships.
  • Proven analytical skills necessary to judge the desirability of complex or unusual risks within assigned specialized lines.
  • Proven record in insurance sales and leadership and organizational skills through past management experience.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, as well as skill in PC software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Microsoft Outlook.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous insurance experience essential – minimum 10 years.
  • Preferably property and commercial lines experience, with energy experience being a plus.
  • Relevant on-the-job experience and working towards or obtained ANZIIF qualifications.
  • Tertiary qualification (Business or Statistics) desirable but not essential.
